To My Dear and Loving Husband

Anne Bradstreet

12 passages1678
The Bond

1If ever two were one, then surely we.

2If ever man were loved by wife, then thee;

3If ever wife was happy in a man,

4Compare with me, ye women, if you can.

The Value

5I prize thy love more than whole mines of gold

6Or all the riches that the East doth hold.

7My love is such that rivers cannot quench,

8Nor ought but love from thee, give recompense.

The Prayer

9Thy love is such I can no way repay,

10The heavens reward thee manifold, I pray.

11Then while we live, in love let's so persevere

12That when we live no more, we may live ever.
